Description

100% Chardonnay

The idea for “Wild Boy” Chardonnay came from Berry Bros & Rudd over 20 years ago when Jim Clendenen, THE Wild Boy, was much wilder. After BBR selected a “tie-dyed” label with an outrageous caricature of Jim Clendenen, we had to fill the package with some Chardonnay worthy of the Wild Boy package.

The wine is balanced, delicious, and has mineral notes, which is how our British customers prefer their Chardonnays. Wild Boy is mainly sourced from the Santa Maria Valley vineyards, with a small percentage from the Los Alamos Valley. Both are cool coastal locations with weather dominated by the Pacific Ocean just 10 miles away, ideal for producing Chardonnays with a Grand Cru Chablis-esque character. After a year or so of bottle age, these Chardonnays develop into genuinely unique wines with freshness, richness, and power that will continue to age handsomely over the next decade.

Chardonnay is often seen as the king of white wine grapes and one of the most widely planted in the world It is suited to a wide variety of soils, though it excels in soils with a high limestone content as found in Champagne, Chablis, and the Côte D`Or. Burgundy is Chardonnay's spiritual home and the best White Burgundies are dry, rich, honeyed wines with marvellous poise, elegance and balance. They are unquestionably the finest dry white wines in the world. Chardonnay plays a crucial role in the Champagne blend, providing structure and finesse, and is the sole grape in Blanc de Blancs.
