Description

The fruit here is both organic and biodynamic. The vines were planted in the early 1970s and the rows available run from the top to the bottom of the vineyard’s steep slope, offering the complete palette. Carel could only use 25% whole bunch this year, so the wine is firmer and more chiselled that recent vintages, with positive, earnest fruit. Drink 2027-2038

Bright mid crimson. There is both fruit weight and some class on the nose, a Corton worthy of the name. Dark raspberry fruit, plenty to work with through the middle, and a fresh energy behind with just a little white pepper to finish. One third whole bunch vinification.Jasper Morris, insideburgundy_com (January 2023)

About this wine

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
