2020 Champagne Clandestin, Boreal, Brut Nature

Description

Based entirely from the 2020 harvest, this Pinot Noir cuvée grown on Kimmeridgian limestone has a beautiful richness to it, full of character and substance. Compared to the 2019, the colour is darker and the texture is slightly creamier, but what always remains the same is that incredible energy from the cool, north-facing vineyards. The nose has bright but dense citrus fruits with a touch of hazelnut, and the palate has a fine smooth mousse with flavours of ripe peach, red apple and butterscotch. Winemaking excellence with an exciting future.

Critics reviews

Anne Krebiehl MW 92/100
100% Pinot Noir, a white wine with the palest shimmer of pink. Crunchy red and green apple on the nose, hints of pepper and cinnamon spice. Light and fresh with an admirably creamy mousse, given it had just two years on lees – produced from the warm 2020 harvest, disgorged in July 2022 without dosage – this estate’s second release will benefit from further bottle age.Drink 2024 - 2030Anne Krebiehl MW, Decanter.com (March 2023)

About this wine

Champagne Clandestin

Champagne Clandestin is a joint project from Bertrand Gautherot, of Vouette et Sorbée fame, and Benoît Doussot – a Burgundian winemaker specialising in Meursault. Together, they started Clandestin: a micro-négociant which buys sustainably-grown grapes from just 8 hectares, and creates the most terroir-expressive Champagnes imaginable.
