Description
Acquired from Alex Gambal in 2019, this is a 0.2-hectare site on the small triangle next to the village known, confusingly, as “Chassagne” – but sold as “Maltroie”. There are 63-year-old vines. The parcel was already farmed biodynamically, so no conversion was necessary. There is plenty of flesh and richness in the wine, which is certainly finding its feet. Drink 2025-2034.

More yellow than lemon here, plenty of fruit weight straight away on the nose, very promising for a terroir I don’t always enjoy. Excellent weight but also character, lemon notes in with a powerfully textured fruit and good acidity.Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy_com (January 2022)

Burgundy is Chardonnay's spiritual home and the best White Burgundies are dry, rich, honeyed wines with marvellous poise, elegance and balance. They are unquestionably the finest dry white wines in the world. Chardonnay plays a crucial role in the Champagne blend, providing structure and finesse, and is the sole grape in Blanc de Blancs.
