2020 Charmes-Chambertin, Grand Cru, Domaine Henri Rebourseau, Burgundy

Description

This is from 1.32 hectares in several contiguous plots in the heart of Aux Charmes, the heart of the vineyard. There is iron in the pebbly marl soil. The wine is aged in 80% new oak. The 2020 has plenty of juicy fruit, but there is good grip on the palate – but not of iron, more of Velcro. Drink 2030-2045.

Critics reviews

Allen Meadows 93/100
A top note of herbal tea can be found on the very ripe but fresh liqueur-like nose that is constituted by the essence of black cherry, plum and discreet warm earth and underbrush scents. The sleek, delicious and vibrant larger-scaled flavors are not as dense, but they are attractively textured thanks to the dense but fine tannins on the balanced, complex, impressively long and balanced finale.2031+allen_meadows, burghound_com.com (Jan 2022)

Rich depth of purple colour. The bouquet offers a very interesting mix of red fruit and grenadine. Very stylish, very perfumed. An extra volume of fruit on the palate, some strawberry, this shows the detail which the massive character of the Rebourseau style cannot hide. A good delicacy at the finish helped by the clarification of the acidity.Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy_com (January 2022)

About this wine

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
