Description

This is a windy spot, atop the highest mound in the centre of the vineyard. Mark had wanted to do 100% whole-bunch this year, but the vat wasn’t big enough; he had to settle for 60%. The bouquet is beautifully perfumed, with lots of floral notes of rose and peony. This is lush and graceful, long and beguiling. Drink 2030-2045.

Critics reviews

Allen Meadows 92-94/100
An overtly floral nose reflects the perfumed essence of ripe red raspberry, earth and a whiff of spice. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the muscular and powerful yet refined medium weight plus flavors thanks mainly to the fine-grained tannins shaping the dusty, youthfully austere and built-to-age finale. This has the potential to be excellent.2032+allen_meadows, burghound_com.com (Jan 2022)

All destemmed, two new barrels. Glowing purple, I don’t smell the new wood because the fruit concentration wins out. The sensual side of raspberry, heady but gorgeously opulent, perhaps a mineral or two at the back – doubtless this will tighten up, but it is so sensual. Very good indeed, long finish.Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy_com (January 2022)

About this wine

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
