Description
The nose is incredibly fruit forward, offering notes of fresh strawberries on shortbread, violet and a dried blueberry mist. Very nice weight on the palate & slightest hint of smoke, which punctuates the fruit forward nose with complexity. An absolute delight to drink, the finish is long and structured, leaving defined fruit to settle on the tongue. Drink now to 2030.

James Suckling 94/100
Cherries, flowers and sweet spices on the nose. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity. Round and creamy with a caressing texture and a fruity edge. Long finish. Fresh and very fine. Elegant is the word. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.james_suckling, jamessuckling_com (Feb 2022)
Bob Campbell MW 96/100
Intense, vibrant pinot noir showing real depth and complexity with nuanced floral, dark cherry and raspberry flavours together with thyme, anise, spice and a suggestion of white pepper. A backbone of fruity acidity reveals energy and helps to promote a lingering finish. A serious wine from one of Central Otago's top producers.Bob Campbell MW, therealreview.com (Oct 2021)
About this wine
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.

Burn Cottage Vineyard
Burn Cottage Vineyards is a twenty four hectare estate in the foothills of the Pisa range in Central Otago, New Zealand. The vineyard is owned by the Sauvage family who purchased the property in 2002. Alongside head winemaker, Ted Lemon, they have converted this piece of previously farmed land into a truly hidden gem. Biodynamically farmed from the start, producing Pinot Noir that is turning heads. Some of the best to currently come out of the southern hemisphere. The climate of Central Otago can best be described as ‘continental’ with warm summers and cold winters, perfect for making world class, subtle & elegant Pinot Noir.
