Description
This Cru is one of the most important and largest in La Morra. Having tasted through all the Crus the combination of old vines and Roberto's minimalist approach puts this at the top. The fruit is ethereal, light strawberries, blueberries with a touch of mocha in the background. The tannins are perfectly integrated already, present but leaving a wonderfully silky mouthfeel. The palate is where the old vines come into their own with incredible concentration of berry compote, dark chocolate and a touch of something herbal. This is a special wine from a special producer from a special year.

James Suckling 96/100
A racy and structured red with orange peel and ripe strawberry. Medium to full body. Tannins are nicely integrated and spread across the palate. Best after 2028.james_suckling, jamessuckling_com (July 2023)
About this wine
Nebbiolo
Nebbiolo is the grape behind the Barolo and Barbaresco wines and is hardly ever seen outside the confines of Piedmont. It takes its name from "nebbia" which is Italian for fog, a frequent phenomenon in the region.

Roberto Voerzio
Voerzio is the original ‘modernist’ Barolo estate. Based in La Morra, Roberto started in the 1980s with five hectares. He makes tiny quantities from a number of top vineyards (La Serra, Rocche dell’Annunziata, Cerequio, Fossati Case Nere, Sarmassa), 60 percent of which have been planted at high density levels. Yet in the winery he’s relatively traditional, eschewing roto-fermentors or manipulation of the fruit, ageing in a combination of small and (since 2008) increasingly large botti.
