2019 Chablis, Les Clos, Grand Cru, Domaine Pinson Frères, Burgundy

Description

From a healthy 2.5-hectare holding, this was fermented in 20% new oak, the rest in tank. Somewhat closed at present, there’s earthy spice and tightly wound white stone-fruit on the nose. The palate is stinging in both concentration and austerity. There’s a huge ball of fruit tightly bound up in the spicy, chewy structure. There’s plenty of potential. Drink 2025-2035.

Critics reviews

Allen Meadows 93/100
(from a 2.5 ha parcel; 90% was vinified in stainless with 10% in new oak followed by an élevage in 1-year old wood). This too is ripe enough to flirt with exoticism on the citrus confit, floral, sea breeze and softly wooded nose. The opulent yet tension-filled big-bodied flavors also brim with both minerality and dry extract while delivering outstanding length on the bone dry, powerful and expressly built-to-age finale. This is excellent but at least some patience will be required. 2029+allen_meadows, burghound_com, (December 2020)

Full pale gold but still bright. The nose shows evolution warmth and volume, but no suggestion that this needs drinking up. This makes a full-on wine which seems a little bit pasty in character until the finish when it begins to dance, excellent acidity still. This is a massive wine that developed very well with time in the glass, to show the solidity of the vintage but also its future potential.Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy_com, (November 2020)
