Description
This second wine is equal or superior to many of the region’s top wines. The 2019 vintage was characterised by intense heat, with mediating periods of rain and cool temperatures. The varied season gave incredible power and finesse to the wines, with a rare combination of power, aromatics and elegance. The nose shows wild Tuscan sage, graphite, dried cranberry, blood oranges and bay leaf. The palate is rich yet full of vitality. The wine is expressive and sapid, woven with black fruits, plum, sour cherry and balsamic depth, framed by firm, silky tannins. The finish is deep yet spritely, with a saline mineral line on the extended finish.

Jane Anson MW 94/100
A classic Bordeaux blend coupled with Tuscan generosity. Charcoal, campfire smoke, black fruits and rich spiced mint leaf. Firm tannins and plenty of punch then pulls up on the finish to show attractive freshness and lift, giving a wine that starts with muscle and ends with finesse. A recognisable Bordeaux blend with its structure, tannins and velvet texture. Softly brushed vanilla bean an cocoa shavings alongside the raspberry fruits. This is excellent quality, approachable with a good few hours in a carafe now, or give it another few years to further soften the tannins. Le Serre Nuove comes from younger vines or those on lighter, sandier soils, translating into a fruit-focused, unfussy wine that was first released in this vintage through the Place in March 2021, making this my second tasting. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2019 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia shows a greater degree of focus and detail compared to the previous vintage that I tasted at the same time. This wine reveals the sharp contours and etched character of the Cabernet Franc, especially with black licorice and black pepper. The results are linear and pure. Elegant fruit notes of blackberry and dark currant add to the thick layering of the wine. I tasted this sample not long after bottling, and we can expect the wine to hit the market in September 2021.Drink 2022 - 2033monica_larner, Wine Advocate (May 2021)

Currants, sweet tobacco, walnut husk and flowers on the nose. Medium-to full-bodied, it grows on the palate, with firm yet polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Very solid and well-crafted second wine from Ornellaia. Drink after 2023.james_suckling, jamessuckling_com (Aug 2021)

About this wine
Ornellaia
Tenuta dell’Ornellaia is located in one of the world’s most exciting wine regions: Bolgheri. A breathtaking avenue lined by towering cypress trees leads inland from the Aurelia, the old Roman coastal road, up to the walls of Bolgheri’s medieval hamlet. From the village the view extends far out to sea and on a clear day the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago and Corsica can be seen. The mild maritime climate and the lush Mediterranean vegetation leave an imprint upon the character of the wines. Tenuta dell’Ornellaia's unique territory guides all aspects of production: limited quantities to ensure maximum quality, attention to every detail, selective hand harvesting, microvinification and ageing.
