Description
This is a great exposition of what Charmes can do. Antoine has parcels in the upper and lower sections; while the latter delivers comforting succulence, the aromatic and floral charms from the best part of the upper vineyard really seduce. This is a pure delight, with a grace that mitigates any heaviness. It’s another deft execution by Antoine. Drink 2025-2036.

Racked and sulphured before harvest. Pale yellow. This wine is evidently richer and riper. The ripest in the cellar. Banana and yellow fruit. A mass of rich white fruit to follow but with a bit of heat. Not my favourite this year.Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy.com (December 2020)

The 2019 Meursault Charmes 1er Cru is well defined and crisp on the nose of yellow plum mixed with honeysuckle and hazelnut, more Meursault character coming though compared to the Poruzots at the moment. The palate is fresh and focused, very expressive, with some gorgeous orange pith and peach skin notes coming through on the finish, flanked by hazelnut and grilled walnut. Excellent. Domaine Antoine Jobard
This white-wine focused domaine is renowned for its steely, taut Meursault. Antoine joined his father, François, here in 2002. He assumed sole charge in ’07, after his father’s 50th vintage. Initially, any changes were minimal. Now, there’s a clear move towards earlier bottling, with two winters in barrel no longer seen as the yardstick. This is both a stylistic choice and a response to warmer and earlier harvests. All decisions are now taken with a view towards greater flexibility, allowing more or less reduction from barrel age as required.
