2019 Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Jacques Carillon, Burgundy

Description

As ever, Jacques’ Puligny, a benchmark for the appellation, comes from seven parcels. Three sit by the southern border with Chassagne, one near the village itself and three to the north by Meursault. Fermented and aged in 15% new oak for the first year, followed by 6 months in tank to marry the different parcels and tighten the wine up over winter, the recipe remains unchanged and so does the result. On the nose, white stone fruit and ripe citrus combine with chalk, subtle white flowers and just a hint of oak spice. The palate is initially juicy and succulent, with plenty of weight and density, but this is all kept in check by a juicy, squeezed-lemon acidity which extends the impressive finish. There’s good complexity too for a village wine. Drink 2023-2028.

Julia Harding MW 16.5/20
Cask sample. Creamy lemon with some SO2 showing (typical of his samples, apparently). Deep, rich and creamy on the palate, lovely leesy texture. Deep and long, generous in the mouth but very fresh. julia_harding MW, JancisRobinson.com (October 2020)

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Village offers up aromas of fresh pear, orange zest, white flowers and pastry cream. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and flavorful, it's generous and enveloping, with lively acids and a fragrant finish. William Kelley, Wine Advocate (January 2020)

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Village has a spring in its step on the nose with touches of lime and citrus fruit. The palate is well balanced with a spicy opening, then opens out into quite a rich mid-palate and a long if straightforward finish.Neil Martin, Vinous.com
