Description
For the Giovanni Rosso Serra, a combination of altitude, east-facing exposure and 40-year-old vines have resulted in a wine with incredible focus, finesse and power. These old vines grow on dangerously steep, raw calcareous soils. The wine saw a long maceration in cement and three years in Slovenian botti grande. The wine provokes sense and pleasures the palate: mentholated, rose-scented, savoury and pure. The Serra vineyard gives a raw framework of taut verticality, fine-china tannins and energetic purity.

Intense raspberry fruit with minerally stony notes on the nose that become more perfumed with aeration. Fantastic, tactile, polished tannins with lashes of supple, pure raspberry fruit. Intense, long finish. Drink 2026 -2044Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com (November 2022)

About this wine
Nebbiolo
Nebbiolo is the grape behind the Barolo and Barbaresco wines and is hardly ever seen outside the confines of Piedmont. It takes its name from "nebbia" which is Italian for fog, a frequent phenomenon in the region.

Giovanni Rosso
Davide Rosso took over from his father, Giovanni, in the early 2000s. He has since risen quickly in reputation as one of Piedmont’s greatest producers. He may not have the uninterrupted winemaking history of some of his famous neighbours, but he is the envy of many: he has some of the most desirable vineyards in Barolo – Serralunga d’Alba, Cerretta, Serra – showcasing the vivid terroir of his beloved hometown.
