Jeb Dunnuck 90/100
The second wine of this great estate in Margaux, the 2019 Château Rauzan-Ségla Ségla is a charming, ripe, delicious wine offering bright cherry fruits as well as some spicy, floral notes, medium-bodied richness, no hard edges, and the freshness and purity that's the hallmark of the vintage.jeb_dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com (November 2022)

A blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance Merlot, the 2019 Ségla exhibits aromas of minty cassis, blackberries, rose petals and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and elegant, it's deep and concentrated, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a long, perfumed finish.Drink 2021 - 2035William Kelley, Wine Advocate (April 2022)

The 2019 Segla is a blend of 54% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it has pronounced notes of baked plums, boysenberries, and cassis with touches of spice box, fragrant earth, and clove oil. Medium-bodied, it is refreshing and elegant with plenty of freshness and ripe, grainy tannins, finishing with an herbal lift.Drink 2023 - 2040Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, The Wine Independent (May 2023)

The tannins have closed down from its En Primeur showing, suggesting there is a real depth to the fruit. Serious and subdued in feel, needs a good 20 minutes in the glass before showing its grilled cedar and liquorice-strewn cassis fruits.jane_anson_mw, janeanson_com (October 2021)

The 2019 Ségla has a tertiary, smoky, pencil box scented bouquet, a bit grouchier than its Margaux peers, stubborn in its flush of youth. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, pretty and quite elegant with a keen thread of acidity. There is impressive precision on the finish, quite mineral-driven with a satisfyingly persistent aftertaste. This Deuxième Vin always shines in blind tastings, its seductiveness shining through. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Drink 2026 - 2045Neil Martin, Vinous.com.com (February 2023)

Bright nose here, giving red summer berry notes, smells inviting and pretty. Good clarity and definition on the palate, I love the approachability, this is juicy and confident, quite a bright style, nice and playful with freshly-picked strawberry flavours coming out.Nicely integrated tannins, on the supple side with a touch of minerality and dryness. Feels well made and I love the depth you get from the ripe fruit but at the same time being bright and energetic. An elegant, quite charming second wine.Drink 2023 - 2039Georgina Hindle, Decanter.com (January 2022)

About this wine

Chateau Rauzan-Segla

Château Rauzan-Ségla and Mouton Rothschild were considered the leading 2emé Cru Classé Bordeaux properties during the 19th century. However, while the fortunes of Mouton prospered in the 20th century, culminating in its elevation to 1er Cru status in 1973, Rauzan-Ségla`s reputation dwindled and a succession of disappointing wines were produced.

Margaux

Margaux

If Pauillac is the bastion of ‘traditional’ Red Bordeaux, Margaux represents its other facet in producing wines that are some of the region’s most sensual and alluring. The largest commune in the Médoc, it encompasses the communes of Cantenac, Soussans, Arsac and Labaude, in addition to the village of Margaux itself. Its finest examples are paragons of refinement and subtlety which have few parallels in Bordeaux.
