2018 Château Quinault l'Enclos, St Emilion, Bordeaux

Owned since 2008 by LVMH, this 20-hectare estate in the heart of Libourne is in excellent hands, managed by Henri Lurton and the exact same team as its prestigious neighbour, Cheval Blanc. The vineyards have been farmed organically since 2012, and 50% of the vineyard has been renewed since its purchase 10 years ago. The aim is to reduce the impact of oak at this level, and some of the wine is aged in 500-litre foudres. Throughout the wine is the sense of skilful, organised winemaking, with pinpoint fruit – blackberry and cherry, with a bit of spice and luxury on the palate. Drink 2024-2035.

Blend: 71.5% Merlot, 14.5% Cabernet Franc, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon
