Monica Larner 95/100
The Comm. G.B. Burlotto 2017 Barolo Acclivi (with 7,000 bottles produced) represents a blend of selected fruit from various sites around Verduno, including old vines in Monvigliero, Neirane, Bocato and Rocche dell’Olmo. The wine shows that electric and jazzed quality that we see from the other wines in this portfolio, only here you get additional concentration and structure at the back. That muscle power is actually quite contained, but given the context of these super fine and nuanced wines, Acclivi shows special determination. To the palate, this wine delivers a more lasting structural and textural impact.Drink 2024 - 2044 monica_larner, Wine Advocate (June 2021)

Acclivi comes partly from Boscato and Rocche Olmo, which are cooler and later ripening areas in Verduno, so better suited to hot vintages such as 2017. Indeed, there is a remarkable energy of wild strawberry, liquorice and chocolate alongside bracing acidity and ripe, dusty tannins. The savoury character stretches the length, and it displays good concentration for the long haul.Drink 2021 - 2040Aldo Fiordelli, Decanter.com (March 2021)

About this wine

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is the grape behind the Barolo and Barbaresco wines and is hardly ever seen outside the confines of Piedmont. It takes its name from "nebbia" which is Italian for fog, a frequent phenomenon in the region.
