2017 Pauillac de Château Latour, Pauillac, Bordeaux

Description

The 2017 Pauillac is a gorgeous wine. Unlike most of the Latour releases of these last few years, it needs more time in bottle! There is plenty of textural depth, but the acids are high and the tannins are a bit larger in size than is typical for the Pauillac. I very much like the wine's exuberance and power. The 2017 is still very vibrant. It just needs time to develop more aromatic nuance.

Jane Anson MW 90/100
Takes a minute to get into its stride, but quickly delivers bright blueberry and blackberry fruit on the palate with juicy acidity, grilled almond and liquorice root. This has clear grip right through the palate, and an overall sense of verve, it trips along without getting too caught up in itself. Accomplished and enjoyable with lovely spice and saffron on the finish.Drink 2023 - 2038jane_anson_mw, Decanter.com (Nov 2019)

A blend of 52.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39.9% Merlot and 7.2% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Le Pauillac de Château Latour is medium to deep garnet-purple in color and comes bounding out of the glass with youthful, energetic notions of ripe black plums, freshly crushed blackcurrants and chocolate-covered cherries with touches of pencil lead, cloves, camphor and smoked meats. Medium-bodied, the palate practically quivers with tension, featuring vibrant red and black fruits and soft, grainy tannins, finishing with fantastic freshness.Drink 2020 - 2032Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate (Mar 2020)

A salty and fresh red with mineral and dark-berry character and a clean and bright finish. Shows linear and tight character.james_suckling, jamessuckling_com (Apr 2018)

Based on 52.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39.9% Merlot, and 7.2% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Le Pauillac De Chateau Latour shows the classic style of the vintage, yet has rock-solid density and depth as well as some Latour class. Blackcurrants, cassis, smoked tobacco, new leather, and graphite all emerge from the glass, and it's medium-bodied, textured, and elegant on the palate.jeb_dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com (Feb 2020)

About this wine

Château Latour

Château Latour is a wine estate in Pauillac, part of the Haut-Medoc sub-region on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. The estate’s history dates back to at least the 14th century, though vineyards were not established here until the 17th century. The estate is located at the southern edge of the Pauillac appellation, bordering the St Julien vineyards of Château Léoville Las Cases. Latour is one of the five First Growths of the 1855 classification, occupying the top tier alongside Châteaux Lafite Rothschild, Margaux, Haut-Brion, and Mouton Rothschild.
