The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru felt just a little disjointed compared to its peers at first and will hopefully gain more cohesion during the remainder of its levage. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, raspberry preserve and cranberry tinged with white pepper, long in the mouth with a structured finish that bodes well for the future. Wait for the aromatics to get their act together, and you will have a very fine Clos de Vougeot that I suspect will rank alongside their 2015, if not surpass it.Neil Martin - 29/12/2017
About this wine
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
