Description
The nose displays slightly restrained notes of cherry, cassis and blackberry. Aged in 70 percent new oak, there is sweet fruit on the palate with some toasty oak. There is great blackberry fruit on the mid-palate with great tension and then tannins which just grow and grow. It finishes with good grip and zip.

Critics reviews
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW 97/100
The 2016 Clinet is composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It was aged using the Oxoline system, in 70% new and 30% one-year-old barrels for 16 months. It has a deep garnet-purple color with cedar and smoked meats on the nose giving way to black and red plums and earthy notions with wafts of cassis and pencil shavings. The palate is medium to full-bodied, elegant, polished and vivacious with loads of red and black fruit layers and an earthy finish. Around 4,416 cases produced.Lisa Perrotti-Brown - 30/11/2018
Jancis Robinson MW 16/20
Blackish crimson. Headily sweet and gamey on the nose with dark, purple-fruit aromas and then this sample went dead on me on the palate. Sucked out the saliva. Very drying end. Awkward, stodgy finish. Not for me. Unripe phenolics. jancis_robinson_mw - 13th April 2017
About this wine
Merlot
The most widely planted grape in Bordeaux and a grape that has been on a relentless expansion drive throughout the world in the last decade. Merlot is adaptable to most soils and is relatively simple to cultivate. It is a vigorous naturally high yielding grape that requires savage pruning - over-cropped Merlot-based wines are dilute and bland. It is also vital to pick at optimum ripeness as Merlot can quickly lose its varietal characteristics if harvested overripe.
