Critics reviews

Joe Czerwinski 94/100
The medium to full-bodied 2015 Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir offers up aromas of roses, ripe cherries, crushed stone and subtle hints of pencil shavings. Despite 31% whole clusters and 19% new oak, neither is readily apparent on the nose at this stage. On the palate, there's a sense of restrained fruit coupled with wiry, herbal, tea-like nuances that add complexity and texture, extending through a long, silky finish. This remarkable property remains at the forefront of Central Otago Pinot Noir producers.Joe Czerwinski - 28/02/2018

About this wine

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.

Burn Cottage Vineyard

Burn Cottage Vineyards is a twenty four hectare estate in the foothills of the Pisa range in Central Otago, New Zealand. The vineyard is owned by the Sauvage family who purchased the property in 2002. Alongside head winemaker, Ted Lemon, they have converted this piece of previously farmed land into a truly hidden gem. Biodynamically farmed from the start, producing Pinot Noir that is turning heads. Some of the best to currently come out of the southern hemisphere. The climate of Central Otago can best be described as ‘continental’ with warm summers and cold winters, perfect for making world class, subtle & elegant Pinot Noir.
