2013 Richebourg, Grand Cru, Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair, Burgundy

Description

Rich, glowing purple, with really vibrant heady red fruit, all tightly meshed. Explosive on the palate with a little touch of spice alongside the wealth of fruit. Pure and delicious.
Jasper Morris, MW - Wine Buyer

The vintage began here on 6th October, once again being short on quantity but with good qualitative potential. Thibault feels that the 2013s can take a long barrel ageing, perhaps up to 24 months. He is using fewer lees, but finer, in order to avoid too many reductive problems.

Critics reviews

Neal Martin MW 93-95/100
The 2013 Richebourg is 100% destemmed with 50% new oak. The new oak is prominent on the nose, although it does not obscure the intensity on the fruit underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, very well- judged acidity, a touch of salted licorice suddenly popping up on the complex finish. This is not a powerful Richebourg, more feminine and poised, but I agree with Thibault that it will build during the remainder of its levage and it already has a very long tail on the aftertaste.Neil Martin - 30/12/2014

About this wine

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
