Description

It’s never a pleasurable experience tasting at Ch. Lafite Rothschild, although it really should be and maybe that’s what made the group struggle with the Grand Vin and Carruades this year. Having said that, Duhart lit up the room this year. Far more precise, compelling and attractive than any year I can recall. It has real sophistication and purity. I rated it higher than Lafite on the day, but will give the benefit of the doubt that the Grand Vin will shine one day.
(Simon Staples, Berrys' Fine Wine Director)

At this stage of its maturation Duhart Milon is often quite hard to taste, but this year we felt it was more open than usual. The bouquet has an earthy, licorice note but this is not unattractive as it is well complemented by aromas of black cherry. The palate is quite dense, with ample tannins and excellent persistence, and the wine has a very pleasing sense of balance and harmony.

Critics reviews

Robert Parker 89-91/100
Tart acids give this dark ruby/purple-tinged wine a crunchy, fresh, lively feel on the palate. Composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot, this medium-bodied 2011 reveals loads of finesse and purity, but is slightly superficial compared to recent vintages such as 2009 and 2010. It should drink well for 10-15 years. (robert_parker - Wine Advocate - April 2012)

More richness than expected, beautifully extracted, elegant and polished, it shows Lafite stable Pauillac elegance.

About this wine

Chateau Duhart-Milon

Château Duhart Milon is a Pauillac estate owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild that produces on average 28,000 cases of wine per year. The wine chais are located in Pauillac town and the property has a similar climate to that enjoyed by the Médoc: maritime, with the Gironde estuary and the Bay of Biscay combining to act as a climate regulator and the coastal pine forests sheltering the vines from the westerly and north-westerly winds.
