2011 Meursault, En la Barre, Domaine Antoine Jobard, Burgundy

Description

En La Barre has really come good in 2011, with more structure and freshness than ever before it seems! It is clear that Antoine has found his style but also the secret to producing a wonderful wine from this great vineyard. Drink this young to and enjoy the steel, gunsmoke and white spice; or allow it to age and revel in the complexity which is sure to bound from the glass.
Gary Owen, Private Account Manager

Somewhat softer and rounder than Les Tillets, this wine has a little more weight on the mid-palate, reflecting its position on the lower slopes, alongside impressive fruit and length.
Jasper Morris MW, Berrys' Burgundy Director

There are three new cuvées from Antoine Jobard this year: a Meursault not previously bottled, a newly purchased Puligny Premier Cru, and a barrel of Meursault Perrières grown by a friend and exchanged for some Jobard Poruzots. The harvest began on 29th August with healthy grapes, very few treatments having been needed in the vines, which were picked around 12.2% with correct yields around 50 hl/ha. This is a superb address for Meursault which ages with distinction.

Domaine Antoine Jobard

This white-wine focused domaine is renowned for its steely, taut Meursault. Antoine joined his father, François, here in 2002. He assumed sole charge in ’07, after his father’s 50th vintage. Initially, any changes were minimal. Now, there’s a clear move towards earlier bottling, with two winters in barrel no longer seen as the yardstick. This is both a stylistic choice and a response to warmer and earlier harvests. All decisions are now taken with a view towards greater flexibility, allowing more or less reduction from barrel age as required.
