2010 Chambolle-Musigny, Baudes, 1er Cru, Joseph Drouhin, Burgundy

Description

Offered separately this year (sometimes it goes into the 1er cru blend). Bright dense purple; quite intense attack, plenty of dense fruit through the middle, then a stricter finish. Ripe dark fruit, perhaps plums, and more tannins than the 1er Cru blend.
Jasper Morris MW, Burgundy Director

Drouhin reds are noted for being lightish in colour, perfumed and a little extracted. Their range of 2010s however show rather deeper colours and more structure – the team felt that the wines were responding very well to the period of maceration in the vats after the fermentation had been completed, so they extended this period. A small percentage of stems are often included to add a little seasoning, though the hallmark of the Drouhin style remains an absolute purity of fruit.

Critics reviews

Antonio Galloni 90+/100
The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes emerges from the glass with sweet raspberries, roses and spices. The Baudes is a more typical Chambolle that emphasizes sensuality and finesse more than sheer power. There is commendable balance and harmony all the way through to the finish. The Baudes is sometimes bottled with the straight 1er Cru, but in 2010 it makes an appearance on its own. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.antonio_galloni - 29/02/2012

About this wine

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
