Description
Hauntingly fine and rich fruit appears on the nose of this completely mouthfilling Gevrey-Chambertin which is explosive yet very classy indeed. This is a pure and exciting Les Cazetiers that offers scintillating appeal.

The last few vintages have shown a freshening up of the Sérafin style, though absolutely not at the expense of the concentration which is a hallmark of this domaine. The concentration of the fruit comes from their meticulous work in the vineyards, the fresher style from a little less extraction during fermentation. Christian himself thinks that 2010 is notably more concentrated than 2009 and as everywhere else, yields are down this year.

Antonio Galloni 92-94/100
The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers is flat-out beautiful. All of the elements are in the right place. A striking bouquet melds into endless waves of fruit, all supported by the finest and silkiest of tannins. Its all there in the glass. In my view, the Cazetiers is the signature wine for the domaine. No one does Cazetiers better than Christian Serafin. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.antonio_galloni - 29/02/2012

Sweet Spot Wines from the 2010 Vintage (from 40+ year old vines that sit directly behind the cuvérie). A somber, cool and very restrained nose offers up notes of plum, dark berries, pungent earth and that distinct sauvage character of a fine Cazetiers. There is a lovely mineral streak to the powerful and almost painfully intense big-bodied flavors that offer excellent richness and drive on the strikingly long finish. This is a terrific effort but I underscore that it’s unapologetically built for the long haul and cellaring is an absolute must. 2025+ (allen_meadows - burghound_com.com - January 2012)

About this wine
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
