2010 Chambertin, Grand Cru, Camille Giroud, Burgundy

Description

The bouquet is more reticent than the Latricières but just wait, the fruit builds quietly but steadily towards the back of the palate, with a great sense of refined precision. This will be another in the series of wonderful Chambertins that Camille Giroud have been producing recently.
Jasper Morris MW, Burgundy Director

The 2010 red wines are sublime here at Camille Giroud, responding well to David Croix’s deft touch. His style is very much in tune with the vintage. The whites are very good too but there are fewer cuvées this year.

Critics reviews

Antonio Galloni 92-94/100
The 2010 Chambertin is a model of buttoned-up restraint and class. With time layers of silky, perfumed fruit emerge from the glass. There is a seamless quality to the Chambertin that is quite striking. Currently, it isnt as vibrant as the Latricieres, but it will be interesting to see what happens once the wine goes into bottle. For now the 2010 is playing its cards very close to the vest. David Croix used 30% whole clusters on the Chambertin. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040.antonio_galloni - 29/02/2012

About this wine

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
