Description

Sumptuous, sophisticated and sexy! This wine has a glorious, flamboyant nose of deep cassis and creamy oak and it is plump and juicy on the palate with a huge, long finish. We cannot remember ever tasting a more impressive and seductive wine from Ch. Sociando-Mallet.

Critics reviews

Robert Parker 91+/100
A very classic wine for patient connoisseurs, Sociando Mallet makes no compromises and continues to produce one of the finest wines among non-classified estates in Haut-Medoc. Dense purple to the rim, the opaque purple-colored 2010 offers up notes of graphite, blueberry and black raspberry fruit, a hint of cassis, some licorice and wet rocks. Deep, full-bodied and almost excruciatingly tannic, this full-throttle, balls-to-the-wall style of wine needs at least 8-10 years of cellaring and should keep for three decades or more.Robert M. The 2010 Ch Sociando Mallet is lively and racy and with more than a hint of young oak! Sweet start and very polished palate. Chewy finish but with lots and lots of sweet fruit. Well done! Quite luscious, very like a fine St-Estèphe. jancis_robinson_mw MW- jancis_robinson_mw.com, Apr 2011)

Great depth of fruit, deep ripeness and resonant flavours, fine texture and vigour, very good future.

(91+ robert_parker - Wine Advocate - Feb 2013) The classic 2010 displays everything one expects from this over-achieving Haut-Medoc. A dense purple color is followed by aromas of blueberries, black currants, graphite and crushed rocks, a layered, full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning concentration and sweet, more polished and refined tannins than are normally found in barrel samples of Sociando Mallet. This cuvee should last for 20-30 years. (91-93 robert_parker- Wine Advocate- May 2011)

Chateau Sociando-Mallet

Chateau Sociando-Mallet is an outperforming Cru Bourgeois property located in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne in the Haut-Médoc. Quality was inconsistent until the property was purchased by Jean Gautreau in 1969. It then consisted of only 7 hectares and in the last 30 years Jean Gautreau has expanded the vineyards to 57 hectares. The vineyards, which lie close to the Gironde Estuary, are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (25%) and Petit Verdot (5%). The grapes are hand picked and then fermented in a combination of stainless steel and concrete tanks. The wines are matured in oak barriques (70-90% new) for 12-15 months. They are bottled unfined and unfiltered. These are weighty, firm and well-structured clarets that are typically rich in fruit and have excellent ageing potential. As Jean Gautreau says: "I have a superb terroir which I want to express in the wine. I try to make a classic Médoc for long keeping."
