2009 Chambertin, Grand Cru, Camille Giroud, Burgundy

Description

Here from Maison Camille Giroud is a brilliant, hauntingly fine example of Chambertin. It has everything you would expect, but leads with an especially superb texture. There is so much going on but words will not do justice to the potential, except for a quick mention of the almost endless finish. A beautiful example from a great vineyard, a top winemaker and a legendary vintage.

Antonio Galloni 94/100
The 2009 Chambertin is utterly impeccable from start to finish. Layers of fruit fill out the wines broad-shouldered frame, leading to a voluptuous, seamless crescendo of aromas and flavors. The 2009 possesses tons of intensity and fabulous overall balance. What a great showing. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039.antonio_galloni - 26/04/2012

About this wine

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
