Description
From the classy, harmonious bouquet to the elegant style in which this magical wine suffuses the palate, it is clear to see that this is another brilliant Mugnier wine, and will be much desired. The familiar & expressive bouquet of red raspberry fruit and that spice note so typical of a great Burgundy is here. Full, round and generous swathes of flavour fill the palate and crescendo into a point of spice, crunchy acidity and a great length. Hard to resist now but will continue to develop until 2016 it won’t disappoint.

Neal Martin MW 87/100
Tasted blind at Flint Wines 2007/2012 Nuits Saint-Georges tasting in London. I remember the 2007 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Marchale showing gloriously in its youth but like so many, it appears to have peaked early. Here, it has lilting red cherry and strawberry fruit on the nose, nicely defined if not the most complex on the block. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannin like the Clos des Forts from Domaine de l'Arlot; conservative and masculine with orange rind and black pepper towards the austere finish. Drink soon. Tasted November 2016.Neil Martin - 01/03/2017
Allen Meadows 89/100
A ripe, fresh and slightly herbal nose combines notes of red and blue pinot fruit, soil tones and a touch of underbrush that can also be found on the fresh, pure and racy silky textured flavors that possess real verve on the dusty, linear and palate staining finish. Lovely if lighter than either the 2005 or 2006 versions. (allen_meadows, burghound_com.com)
About this wine
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
