Description
We had been a bit disappointed with the quality of the Second wines in 2006 until we tasted this astonishingly good Forts de Latour. We scored this wine better than the two Pichons, which were themselves two of the best Second Growths in 2006. This has outstanding balance and pedigree from the dense, dark, aromatic nose to the very long, pure finish. The wine reflects the elegance of 2006 with lifted, cool black fruit on the palate, a great structure and savoury tannins.

Neal Martin MW 92/100
Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Les Forts de Latour has a much more precise and lively bouquet than the Le Petit Mouton: blackberry, briary and vanilla emerging from the glass, suggesting that it needs another couple of years to reach its peak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, commendable depth of fruit and tangible mineralit. This is better than some of the Pauillac Grand Vins, such is the detail and energy on the finish. Superb. Tasted January 2016.Neil Martin - 30/05/2016
Jancis Robinson MW 17.5/20
Mid crimson with a slightly weak rim. Very spicy nose with some real richness. Great life and lift and zest. Lots of energy. Not massively weighty. Tight and very fine tannins. Somehow it gives the impression of alcohol even though it’s only 13.25%. Very fine, not too chunky. Quite unusually delicate and fine. Very focussed! Very harmonious but much less galumphing than usual. jancis_robinson_mw - JancisRobinson.com - 31-Jul-2007
Robert Parker 92/100
The brilliant second wine, the 2006 Les Forts de Latour, a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, possesses a dense ruby/purple color, a beautiful bouquet of asphalt, cassis, cedar, truffles, and earth, and a full-bodied, dense, beautiful style that is similar to a 1996 Pauillac. It will age effortlessly for 15 years. robert_parker - Wine Advocate - Feb-2009
About this wine
Château Latour
Château Latour is a wine estate in Pauillac, part of the Haut-Medoc sub-region on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. The estate’s history dates back to at least the 14th century, though vineyards were not established here until the 17th century. The estate is located at the southern edge of the Pauillac appellation, bordering the St Julien vineyards of Château Léoville Las Cases. Latour is one of the five First Growths of the 1855 classification, occupying the top tier alongside Châteaux Lafite Rothschild, Margaux, Haut-Brion, and Mouton Rothschild.
