Description
With its excellent terroir, Beychevelle should produce one of the great wines of the region. Well, shock horror, in 2006 it has made a big leap towards doing exactly that. With lovely unctuous fruit and silky concentration, this surprisingly powerful 2006 is a revelation. General Manager Philippe Blanc has plans to replant some of his Merlot with Cabernet in the future and it is no coincidence that the success of this focused, sexy 2006 has the lowest amount of Merlot (29%) and the highest amount of Cabernet Sauvignon (59%) ever. Snap this up before the prices start going the same way.

Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Chteau Beychevelle has a more open and more complex bouquet compared to the 2006 Talbot. I appreciate the clarity and detail here with briary, cedar and touches of forest floor, suggesting that it has both feet planted on its drinking plateau. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm grip in the mouth. This is clean and fresh with a fine line of acidity: brambly red fruit, white pepper, cloves and a touch of fennel on the finish. This surpasses previous bottles that I have tasted. Tasted January 2016.Neil Martin - 30/05/2016

Chateau Beychevelle
Château Beychevelle is a 4ème Cru Classé St-Julien wine property that boasts one of the most impressive châteaux in the whole of the Médoc. Its label depicts a beautiful galley with a large sail, as a consequence of its ownership in the 16th century by the Duc d`Eperon, Admiral of France at the time. The expression "Baisse-Vaille", meaning "lower sails", later evolved into the name Beychevelle. Today the property is owned by Grands Millésimesde France.
