"Fresh, classy with Margaux finesse"
Wines of the Year - Decanter Award 5/5 Stars- Decanter Nov 08
This year the deep, dense, fruit-laden and well-structured style of recent Rauzan-Séglas goes the extra mile to make a totally complete wine. The dynamic dark purple colour sets the tone for the intense nose that follows. But it's the uplifting and enormous mouthful of rich raspberry and mulberry fruit which dominates here. Perfectly integrated and with extraordinary length, this is an extraordinary Rauzan-Ségla, and their best for a very long time.

Neal Martin MW 94/100
Estate manager John Kolasa nailed the 2005 Chteau Rausan Segla. It's rapidly blossoming into one of the best wines from the estate in recent memory. Time has nurtured a gorgeous bouquet that leans slightly more to red berry fruit, intermingling with iris and rose petals, veins of cedar and fresh mint. It is bursting at the seams with fruit while all the time retaining wonderful delineation and control. The palate follows in a similar vein. It feels plush in the mouth, adorned with a satin texture, yet this is complemented by finesse and refinement. It gradually builds in the mouth to a sensual finish that epitomizes this great Margaux estate. You might well be able to broach this 2005 now. It has more approachability than some of its peers, though there is the substance to guarantee two decades and more of drinking pleasure. Tasted June 2015.Neil Martin - 29/07/2016
Jancis Robinson MW 16/20
Smooth and sophisticated. A bit bloody and dusty. Pants like a puppy rather than presenting itself for stroking. jancis_robinson_mw MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17 July 2012
Lovely, fragrant aromas, fresh and classy. A delicious wine with the fresh ripe fruit, the vintage finesse of a Margaux. A tight core now. Medoc 2005 - Decanter Award Winner - July 08
Robert Parker 93+/100
The 2005 Rauzan-Segla displays notes of bay leaf, blackcurrants, earth and spice. It has a very youthful, dense ruby/plum/purple color, a medium to full body, with tannins still present and a nice, spicy aftertaste. The wine is firm and still somewhat adolescent. Give it another 3-4 years, and drink it over the following 15-20. Robert M. Parker, Jr. - Wine Advocate - eRobertParker.com #219 Jun 2015
About this wine
Chateau Rauzan-Segla
Château Rauzan-Ségla and Mouton Rothschild were considered the leading 2emé Cru Classé Bordeaux properties during the 19th century. However, while the fortunes of Mouton prospered in the 20th century, culminating in its elevation to 1er Cru status in 1973, Rauzan-Ségla`s reputation dwindled and a succession of disappointing wines were produced.
