Description
This sensational Latour left us totally speechless when we tasted it - a monumental task indeed when Berrys' Sales Director Simon Staples is present. The 2004 has the highest ever percentage of Cabernet (90%) in the final blend - usually it's around 80% - and is one which Director Frédéric Engerer likens to their astonishing 1996. The nose is dense and intense with deep black fruits yet without clumsiness or over extraction - just defined, cool and precise. The palate is powerful and majestic with its sweet raspberries and licorice following through to an indecently long finish. This Latour has great structure, great precision and is a great wine.

Neal Martin MW 95/100
The 2004 Latour is perhaps evolving slower than I expected, although it remains one of the finest Left Bank wines of the vintage. It has that quintessential graphite-scented bouquet intermixed with blackberry and cedar, although the liquorice note that I observed previously has receded. Again, there is wonderful definition. The palate is full-bodied but surprisingly more sultry than I expected, especially here where I was able to directly compare it with the other 2004 First Growths. It delivers the authority you expect from Latour, although I might be inclined just to give it another 2-3 years in bottle. Tasted September 2016.Neil Martin - 01/03/2017
Robert Parker 95/100
A terrific effort from Administrator Frederic Engerer and owner Francois Pinault, the dark ruby/purple-tinged 2004 Latour exhibits a strong cassis character intermixed with notes of crushed rocks, earth, cedar, and forest floor. Racy, elegant, but powerful with medium to full body, and sweet tannin, it will benefit from 5-7 years of cellaring, and should keep for three decades. It is a very impressive offering. robert_parker - Wine Advocate #171 Jun 2007
About this wine
Château Latour
Château Latour is a wine estate in Pauillac, part of the Haut-Medoc sub-region on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. The estate’s history dates back to at least the 14th century, though vineyards were not established here until the 17th century. The estate is located at the southern edge of the Pauillac appellation, bordering the St Julien vineyards of Château Léoville Las Cases. Latour is one of the five First Growths of the 1855 classification, occupying the top tier alongside Châteaux Lafite Rothschild, Margaux, Haut-Brion, and Mouton Rothschild.
