Waterford, Peated, Lacken 1.1, Single Malt Whiskey, Ireland (50%)
- Irish Whiskeys
Description
This is another fascinating single-farm bottling in Waterford's ceaseless quest to explore terroir in whisky. Peated to 57ppm, this is one of the most heavily-peated Irish whiskies made so far. Crucially, it is among the first Irish whiskies in generations to use Irish peat in the malting process. The aromas are intense, with a hugely vibrant nose of brine and woodsmoke. This continues onto the palate with smoked tea and hints of green apple and firm peach. There's a nicely dry, peaty finish here.

Barley is a key ingredient in the production of some of the world's most renowned spirits, particularly whiskey and Scotch whisky. Malted barley is used as the primary grain in many single malt and blended Scotch whiskies, where it contributes a distinct malty, nutty, and sometimes smoky flavour profile. In addition to Scotch, barley is also a staple in the production of Irish whiskey, where it often lends a smoother, creamier taste. The versatility of barley as a grain makes it a favorite for creating complex and deeply nuanced spirits cherished by enthusiasts worldwide.
