White Peak Distillery, Wire Works, Caduro, Single Malt Whisky, England (46.8%)

White Peak Distillery stands on a former 19th-century wireworks site in Derbyshire. It produces the Wire Works Whisky, where a blend of tradition and innovation results in a truly unique English expression. Caduro results from long fermentations, delicate peat-smoking and ageing in a mixture of first-fill, ex-Bourbon, American oak and French red-wine casks.

The result is unmistakably fruit-forward. It displays apple and citrus notes, gently merging with toffee and honey. All the while, it's underpinned with that delicate, sweet smoke of lightly-peated English barley. This is a superb showing of the interplay between fermentation, distillation, oak ageing and peat.
