Westland, American Oak, Single Malt Whiskey, USA (46%)

Description

Perhaps Westland’s most important bottling is their signature American Oak where provenance and terroir are to the fore. Brassy gold in the glass, honey, vanilla and caramelised banana leap out of the glass alongside lifted floral notes. On the palate notes of treacle, apple, cinnamon and vanilla evolve into tarte tatin and strudel, ending on a long coffee, praline note. Nowhere is Westland’s vision more prominent, than here: American oak, American Barley, American flavour profiles. Each sip transports me one step closer to the Space Needle and Washington’s great National Parks.

About this spirit

Westland Distillery

Westland Distillery was founded in Seattle in 2010 by Matt Hoffman and Emerson Lamb. Since its inception, Matt has been their Master Distiller, a post he holds to this day. The team at Westland are driven by a philosophy that places barley at the heart of their whisky-making. Their vision is to produce exceptional spirits that are truly reflective of their Pacific Northwest environment, while benefiting everyone involved in the production process. Barley, they believe, is one of the central components behind this (alongside the use of oak and peat).

Barley

Barley is a key ingredient in the production of some of the world's most renowned spirits, particularly whiskey and Scotch whisky. Malted barley is used as the primary grain in many single malt and blended Scotch whiskies, where it contributes a distinct malty, nutty, and sometimes smoky flavour profile. In addition to Scotch, barley is also a staple in the production of Irish whiskey, where it often lends a smoother, creamier taste. The versatility of barley as a grain makes it a favorite for creating complex and deeply nuanced spirits cherished by enthusiasts worldwide.
