Merlot 68%, Cabernet Franc 32%
Lush and deep in colour, this has a nose of peony and broom, and a sweet core of deep cherry. The perfume evolves on the palate, adding intensity but without any sense of heaviness. It has more volume and sleeker tannins than its sibling Ch. Berliquet. The profile is of red fruit, tense and set to burst in the mouth, but without any sense of pressure or being over-forced. As befits its owners, Chanel, this is highly sophisticated haute couture.

About this wine
Merlot
The most widely planted grape in Bordeaux and a grape that has been on a relentless expansion drive throughout the world in the last decade. Merlot is adaptable to most soils and is relatively simple to cultivate. It is a vigorous naturally high yielding grape that requires savage pruning - over-cropped Merlot-based wines are dilute and bland. It is also vital to pick at optimum ripeness as Merlot can quickly lose its varietal characteristics if harvested overripe.
