This charming Daftmill release lets you know immediately that it’s from first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels of top quality, with lashings of vanilla essence and spiced custard on the nose. A little bit of time in the glass allows more complexity and distillery character to build, giving honeyed beeswax, peaches, apricot jam and something savoury, reminiscent of bay leaves and cardamon.

The palate is pleasingly balanced, with spicy oak pairing nicely with the fruitier distillate notes. Caramelised brown sugar, cocktail bitters, praline and banana notes emerge with time. Wood spice is dominant on the finish, giving waves of cinnamon, nutmeg and dried ginger. This is another perfect Daftmill; it epitomises why we love this complex little Lowlander in simple Bourbon barrels.
