Description

The 2022 Les Griottes de Brulhié wonderfully captures its blue volcanic rock terroir, delivering aromas of candied red and black cherries, candied peel, sweet pea blooms and sweet spices. The wine's components are present in beautiful harmony, carefully extracted to reveal polished structuring tannins and bright acids that animate its juicy berry-fruited core. Medium-bodied, the wine boasts a lush concentration of flavour and great depth on the mid-palate, with layers of dried herbs and a crystalline salinity that surface on the lengthy, flavourful finish.

About this wine

Gamay

A French variety planted predominately in Beaujolais where it is the grape behind everything from light and often acidic Beaujolais Nouveau through to the more serious and well-structured wines from the 10 cru villages. It takes its name from a hamlet just outside Chassagne-Montrachet and was at one stage widely planted on the Côte d`Or. However it was gradually phased out due to its poor yield and supposed poor quality of its wines.

Côte de Brouilly

The Côte de Brouilly, one of the ten Beaujolais Crus, is renowned for its unique terroir with volcanic and granite soils. It is situated on Mont Brouilly's slopes and produces structured, concentrated wines primarily from Gamay grapes. The region's early-ripening fruit and diverse microclimates result in fresh wines that age well, gaining complexity over time.

Château Thivin, located in the Côte de Brouilly, is renowned for its distinctive volcanic soils and early-ripening fruit. This small appellation, one of the ten Beaujolais Crus, offers a unique terroir expertly showcased through the estate's various single-vineyard cuvées. Each of the estate's ten plots, spread around the steep hill of Côte de Brouilly, brings its own character, combining to create fresh, structured, and concentrated wines, making them appealing both in youth and with age.
