2019 Racines, Cuvée Pinot Noir, Santa Rita Hills, California, USA

Description

Light ruby colour. Pretty and fresh aromas include red Pinot, cherry and violet. The super-sleek, intense and delicious middle-weight flavours possess excellent punch before terminating in a youthfully austere, inviting, refreshing finish. This is exceptionally pretty, but it's not as complex as desirable, so I suggest allowing it 2 to 4 years of keeping first.

The 2019 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills is an attractive, ethereal wine. Sweet dried cherry, mint, tobacco and sage are some of the aromas and flavours that open in the glass. I would give this a few years in bottle to soften. This is an especially savoury style of Pinot with plenty of aromatic presence and the fruit pushed into the background—the Sta. Rita Hills cuvée is a blend of fruit from Domaine de la Côte and La Encantada.Drink 2022 - 2031antonio_galloni, Vinous.com.com (June 2021)

About this wine

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
