2016 Cardrona, Full Flight, 7-Year-Old, Sherry Cask #114, Single Malt Whisky, New Zealand (62.7%)
- Gin
Description
On the nose, my first impressions of this whisky are of a “sherry bomb”. The heavily nutty Oloroso aroma softens, immeasurably, with a touch of water. Notes of pencil shavings, cedar and a touch of spice creep through with time in the glass. Depth of flavour and character emerge with a dash more water and the complexity and intensity of fruit is remarkable throughout.
Further dilution is rewarded with a purity of elegant pine straw. The PX character is most striking in the finish with deliciously stewed plum, raisins and honeyed spice. This is an excellent way to join Cardrona’s journey.

Barley
Barley is a key ingredient in the production of some of the world's most renowned spirits, particularly whiskey and Scotch whisky. Malted barley is used as the primary grain in many single malt and blended Scotch whiskies, where it contributes a distinct malty, nutty, and sometimes smoky flavour profile. In addition to Scotch, barley is also a staple in the production of Irish whiskey, where it often lends a smoother, creamier taste. The versatility of barley as a grain makes it a favorite for creating complex and deeply nuanced spirits cherished by enthusiasts worldwide.
