2007 Niepoort, Port, Portugal

Description

Dirk Niepoort has produced a truly outstanding 2007; aromatically this is a delight, an over-flowing fruit-basket of indulgence. No change of tempo on the palate, which combines eucalypt, Seville orange and macerated cherries. Sweetness and tannins are harmoniously entwined; the wine crescendos wonderfully then lingers endlessly.

Critics reviews

Jancis Robinson MW 18/20
Mid crimson, not the bluest by a long chalk. Fragrant with some black pepper and then extremely luscious at first with an impressive register of ripe tannins closing in on the finish. Real velvet glove with an iron fist hidden inside. Complex, different wine that has admirable freshness rather than being formulaic. Full of life. Rather playful. jancis_robinson_mw MW - JancisRobinson.com – May 09)

The 2007 Niepoort Morgadio Vintage Port is purple-colored with aromas of smoke, mineral, espresso, licorice, and blackberry. Medium-weight on the palate with an elegant personality, it is a relatively forward effort with plenty of succulent fruit, moderate tannin, and excellent balance. This tasty Port should evolve for another 6-8 years and drink well through 2027, probably longer. (Jay Miller - Wine Advocate # 187 - Feb 2010)

Wonderful aromas of violet, blackberry and citrus fruits. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with layers of ripe, polished tannins. Very very long. Goes on and on. Very layered and well-crafted. james_suckling– Wine Spectator – May 09)

About this wine

Niepoort

While several notable Scots and English families (Graham, Warre and Taylor, for example) emigrated to the Douro valley in the 18th century, others from Port-importing countries did likewise, and the Niepoorts arrived from the Netherlands.
