1998 Glenmorangie Grand Vintage, Bottled 2022, Highland, Single Malt Scotch Whisky (43%)
- Scotch Whisky
Description
A combination of Glenmorangie’s first foray into charred virgin oak and first fill ex-bourbon barrels before an Oloroso sherry finish knits everything together and adds touches of dried fruit and almonds.
A classic blend of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks gives the 1998 the most classic flavour profile in the line-up. From nosing the glass, pineapple, vanilla fudge, golden raisins and crystalised ginger all spring to mind.
There is even a slight cereal note with honey, malt and lemon barley all leaping out of the glass. The texture is luscious, with a creamy, moreish-ness like vanilla yoghurt. A classic style and very enjoyable.

Barley
Barley is a key ingredient in the production of some of the world's most renowned spirits, particularly whiskey and Scotch whisky. Malted barley is used as the primary grain in many single malt and blended Scotch whiskies, where it contributes a distinct malty, nutty, and sometimes smoky flavour profile. In addition to Scotch, barley is also a staple in the production of Irish whiskey, where it often lends a smoother, creamier taste. The versatility of barley as a grain makes it a favorite for creating complex and deeply nuanced spirits cherished by enthusiasts worldwide.
