Glendronach, Traditionally Peated, Highland, Single Malt Scotch Whisky (48%)

Description

Founded in 1826, Glendronach Distillery has a long tradition of producing rich, robust single malts. This release pays homage to the distillery’s historical use of peated malt – it is a nod to Glendromach’s 19th-century peated whisky production methods. This was aged in a combination of bourbon, sherry and port casks, adding complexity to its peaty profile.

About this spirit

Glendronach Distillery, Speyside

The Glendronach distillery in the Deveron area of Speyside was founded by James Allardice in 1826, but it was destroyed by a fire in 1937. The licence and the ruins of the distillery were sold to Walter Scott of Teaninich distillery. From 1920 to 1960 it stayed under the ownership of Charles Grant (younger son of William Grant of Glenfiddich) and it was subsequently sold to William Teacher, now part of the Pernod-Ricard group. The Glendronach distillery was mothballed since 1995, but production resumed in 2004. The malt is used in the blends Ballantine and Teachers.

Barley

Barley is a key ingredient in the production of some of the world's most renowned spirits, particularly whiskey and Scotch whisky. Malted barley is used as the primary grain in many single malt and blended Scotch whiskies, where it contributes a distinct malty, nutty, and sometimes smoky flavour profile. In addition to Scotch, barley is also a staple in the production of Irish whiskey, where it often lends a smoother, creamier taste. The versatility of barley as a grain makes it a favorite for creating complex and deeply nuanced spirits cherished by enthusiasts worldwide.
