Teeling, 21-Year-Old, Rising Reserve, Single Malt Whiskey, Ireland (46%)
- Irish Whiskeys
Description
Irish whiskey, as seen through the lens of Teeling Distillery, continues to go from strength to strength, especially when they fashion spirits of such elegance as this 21-year-old. After 16 years in ex-Bourbon barrels, this whiskey is then finished in the exceedingly rare Portuguese White Port cask, Carcavelos. The influence of this is striking.
Tropical flavours with a subtle framework of caramel sweetness lead on this whiskey, with aromas of green apples and banana bread. There’s a huge amount of energy and vibrancy on the palate. Citrus fruit spice with delicate tannins leaves your mouth fuzzy and warm and a long finish punctuated by passionfruit adds to the joy and intrigue. For me, the balance of this whiskey is the most impressive thing, and worth experiencing for yourself.

Barley
Barley is a key ingredient in the production of some of the world's most renowned spirits, particularly whiskey and Scotch whisky. Malted barley is used as the primary grain in many single malt and blended Scotch whiskies, where it contributes a distinct malty, nutty, and sometimes smoky flavour profile. In addition to Scotch, barley is also a staple in the production of Irish whiskey, where it often lends a smoother, creamier taste. The versatility of barley as a grain makes it a favorite for creating complex and deeply nuanced spirits cherished by enthusiasts worldwide.
