Tobermory, Oloroso Cask Finish, 24-Year-Old, Island, Single Malt Scotch Whisky (52.5%)
- Scotch Whisky
Description
Really classy stuff here from our Muileach friends at Tobermory. An almost hulking nose of walnut, dense grained wood and sugared almonds takes me to that drawer in my grandmother’s ancient oak sideboard that was always full of treats. Rich molasses, marzipan-stuffed dates from last Christmas, candied peel and barley-sugar candies continue the sweet-shop reminisces. The masterstroke here is the exceptionally finely textured tannins that provide balancing bitterness, allowing my childhood memories to roam free. Drink this with a slice of fruitcake – or, even better, a little paper bag of tuck-shop sweeties.

Barley
Barley is a key ingredient in the production of some of the world's most renowned spirits, particularly whiskey and Scotch whisky. Malted barley is used as the primary grain in many single malt and blended Scotch whiskies, where it contributes a distinct malty, nutty, and sometimes smoky flavour profile. In addition to Scotch, barley is also a staple in the production of Irish whiskey, where it often lends a smoother, creamier taste. The versatility of barley as a grain makes it a favorite for creating complex and deeply nuanced spirits cherished by enthusiasts worldwide.
