2022 Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine de la Vougeraie, Burgundy

Description

Three parcels (Rue aux Vaches, Noyers Brets and Paupillots) make just over one hectare of vines. Yields were pleasingly generous this year. The three plots are fermented apart, then blended. This is a good example of the richer style achieved this year by harvesting a touch later. There is no sense of heaviness but a mouth-filling, creamy texture with weight on the finish.

From Noyer Bret, Rue aux Vaches and Au Paupillot. Pale but fresh in colour. It starts out strict, but then the oak fleshes it out. Not quite knit together yet but this will certainly happen. Fine acidity and excellent length. Just a question of time. Even now, the bouquet starts to grow in terms of both fruit and summer flowers. Drink from 2026 - 2031Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy_com (November 2023)

From three lieux-dits, the 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Village has a fragrant bouquet with Clementine and light patisserie scents, rather concentrated for a Village Cru. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity, quite saline towards the finish, with a dash of lemongrass on the aftertaste. This punches above its weight and comes recommended. We started the harvest on August 26 and finished September 13 at 38hL/ha,” Sylvie Poillot said with that permanent smile on her face. “All the whites and reds are matured in 20% new oak in 450-litre barrels for the former, using our own wood from the Citeaux forest. I think the two villages that excelled in 2022 are Vougeot and Chambolle-Musigny. The wines will be bottled early next year, and all the prices will be kept the same as the 2021s.”Drink 2025 - 2033Neil Martin, Vinous.com.com (January 2024)
